Generic Azithromycin – cheap solution to infection

Jan 13 / 2022

Generic Azithromycin is a cheaper, less advertised version of the well-known antibiotic drug called Azithromycin. Being absolutely identical by its chemical and pharmacological properties to the above-mentioned antibiotic, Generic Azithromycin is highly effective against all infections treated by otolaryngologists if they are caused by the susceptible microorganisms. The medicine is used to treat tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, scarlet fever; infections of the lower respiratory tract: pneumonia (including atypical, exacerbation of chronic) bronchitis. Generic Azithromycin is also effective against skin and soft tissue infections such as impetigo, secondarily infected dermatitis, and others. Sometimes the drug is also prescribed for the treatment of sexually transmitted infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis such as gonorrheal and non-gonorrheal urethritis, and cervicitis. Azithromycin and its analogs are used for the therapy of Lyme disease (initial stage), peptic and duodenal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori (in combination therapy). It is also commonly prescribed for combination therapy of malaria.

How to take Generic Azithromycin and when it is contraindicated?

Since Generic Azithromycin is identical to its wider-known counterpart, Azithromycin, it is used in the same dosages either orally or intravenously. The medicine must be taken once a day either one hour before meal or two hours after as its effect is greatly influenced by food intakes. The treatment of respiratory tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections in adults can be done as follows: 0,5 grams in the first day of the treatment with subsequent 0,25 grams intake from the second to the fifth day of the treatment course or 0,5 grams of the drug daily for three days.

In acute infections of genitourinary tract, adults should take a single dose of 1 gram (two pills 0,5 grams each).

Initial stage of Lyme disease is treated with 1 gram in the first day of the treatment with subsequent intake of 0,5 grams daily from second to the fifth day of treatment.

Generic Azithromycin can be used in the treatment of children. The dosage is calculated based on the body weight. Children with the body weight over 10 kilograms are administered 10 mg per kilogram of body weight in the first day with subsequent use of 5 mg per kilogram of body weight within the following 4 days of the treatment course.

In case of three-day treatment course, the daily dosage is 10 mg per kilogram of child’s body weight for three days.

Generic Azithromycin must not be used by people who have allergy to one of its components. It should be carefully taken by people with liver or kidney dysfunction. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the use of the medicine is undesirable. It can be taken only if its assessed effect is greater than the potential risk to the baby.

Generic Azithromycin can interact with other medicines. It is crucial to tell your doctor about all of the medicines you use or plan to use while receiving the treatment with the antibiotic. The interval between the intake of Generic Azithromycin and the medicines lowering gastric acidity should be at least two hours.

How is Generic Azithromycin different from the brand drug?

As we have already said, the drugs are identical by their properties and compound. They have different manufacturers hence the difference in price and marketing options. In the USA, you can buy an antibiotic drug either exclusively with a prescription at your local drugstores or from a foreign online pharmacy without any prescription. Naturally, buying the same drug online is cheaper.

Generic Azithromycin is a medicine absolutely identical to the brand drug made by other pharmaceutical company and sold cheaper online.
